IMPACTING LIVES

Become A Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Hope House! We are a small organization that relies heavily on volunteers to help us carry out our mission to improve the lives of families affected by HIV. By giving your time to Hope House, you will be directly impacting lives of adults and children in our community.

Volunteering and Internship Opportunities

Classroom Volunteers
We need volunteers throughout the school day in our classrooms. Help rock and love our babies while the teachers are changing and feeding them, play with our toddlers or assist our preschoolers with class work or help the teachers prep for their week ahead.  We also welcome volunteers who would like to do special projects with our children like a fun craft, story time, cooking lessons, foreign language classes, etc.

Buddy Up Program
A volunteer is matched with one of our preschool children and becomes a mentor to the child for the school year. We ask that our volunteers commit to visiting the child for an hour one time a week for the school year.

Keep Hope House Beautiful
Volunteers help with yard work and handyman work around the houses and cleaning inside the houses.

Supply Drives
We are always in need of supplies for our houses and to send home with our families. Our biggest needs are household supplies like paper towels, trash bags and toilet paper. We also need are supplies for our classrooms and our adult clients are always in need of food and clothing.

Event Superstars
We put on 2-3 events each year. We need volunteers to help man the events, sell tickets, decorate, set up and clean up. Upcoming Events

Hope House Internships
Students can apply for internships for 1 of 3 areas- social work/counseling, early childhood education, non-profit business management. For more information or to apply, send a resume and cover letter to Erin Benfield at ebenfield@hopehousememphis.org

Volunteering is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Please fill out a Volunteer Application and send to ebenfield@hopehousememphis.org
  2. Come by and take a tour of Hope House. We like for all our potential volunteers to come by and meet our children and see our facility.
  3. Complete a fingerprint/background check. All volunteers must pass a background check in order to spend time with our children. The background check is provided at no cost to you by the Department of Human Services and can be scheduled with a provider near you.

If you are not a Tennessee resident or if you have lived in another state in the last 5 years then you will need to contact Erin Benfield at ebenfield@hopehousememphis.org for additional background check instructions.

Please note that background check results will take 7-14 days to return.

Please contact Erin Benfield, Family Resource and Community Engagement Manager, with any questions regarding volunteering at Hope House.
