Maya Angelou wrote that “the ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
This ache permeated much of C’s life before he found a home through Hope House. He has graciously allowed us to share his story:
“I have four brothers and one sister, I am the oldest. I got custody of my siblings two months before my 21st birthday, right after my mom passed away. During that time we were homeless. We would stay at shelters when we could. I just wanted us to all stay together. My family means everything to me. For a little while we lived in an abandoned apartment until we were told we had to go. In the middle of everything, I found out about my HIV status. Most people have fun in their twenties, but I spent mine trying to take care of my family.”
